Sarah Lappin to Present Paper at "Sound Art Matters" Conference

Sarah Lappin will present her paper "What's the Matter With Architects?  Sound Art as a Challenge to Architectural Practice" at Aarhus University's Sound Art Matters international conference 1-4 June 2016.  The paper will examine methods deployed by sound artists that offer critique and alternative approaches to architects’ practice, including:

  • investigation of the nature of materials used in building,
  • alternative modes of explaining concepts of space to diverse publics, and
  • questioning how space is occupied, and by whom.

Each of these will be illustrated by specific examples of sound art installations and methods observed while in Berlin, including projects in which sound artists and architects worked together.
